Teaching Assistant Jobs Stevenage. We are looking for dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistants to provide support for primary-aged children through focused group work and general classroom assistance. The successful candidates will play an essential role in helping children engage in their learning and daily activities, offering personalized support to meet each child’s unique needs.
This is an ad hoc position, allowing you to work on days you’re available in welcoming schools committed to delivering the highest standards of education and support for all students, including those with special educational needs. Responsibilities for Teaching Assistant Jobs Stevenage:
- Provide individualized 1:1 support and group support for children across EYFS to KS2.
- Implement sensory activities tailored to each child’s needs, promoting engagement with their environment and learning.
- Assist children in using alternative communication methods, such as PECS, Makaton, or other communication aids.
- Maintain a structured, calming classroom environment to support children’s emotional and sensory regulation.
- Collaborate with the SENCO, class teacher, and external specialists to follow and implement each child’s Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Provide support for personal care needs, as required.
- Track and document each child’s progress, providing feedback to the SENCO and parents.
- Foster a positive, trusting relationship with each child, encouraging their social and emotional development.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working with children, particularly those with SEND
- Knowledge of sensory needs and experience in implementing sensory-based learning or therapeutic activities.
- Familiarity with communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication systems.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working closely with teachers, specialists, and parents.
- Ability to provide personal care, if required.
- A relevant qualification in SEN support or childcare (desirable but not essential) e.g. CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, Autism Awareness, Makaton, etc
