We are seeking a skilled and resilient Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to provide one-to-one support for a Year 6 child with challenging behaviour and additional needs. This full-time role is perfect for someone with experience in SEN support who thrives on creating a positive impact in a structured and supportive environment.
Responsibilities for SEN LSA Colchester:
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a Year 6 child with challenging behaviour and additional needs.
- Assist in implementing tailored behaviour and learning plans to support the child’s development.
- Use effective de-escalation strategies and positive behaviour techniques to maintain a calm and supportive environment.
- Foster a trusting relationship to build the child’s confidence and engagement in learning.
- Collaborate with the class teacher and SEN team to ensure consistent and effective support.
Requirements:
- Proven experience working with children with profound ASD or complex needs, particularly those who are non-verbal.
- Knowledge of sensory needs and experience in implementing sensory-based learning or therapeutic activities.
- Familiarity with communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication systems.
- Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working closely with teachers, specialists, and parents.
- Ability to provide personal care, if required.
- A relevant qualification in SEN support or childcare (desirable but not essential) e.g. CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, Autism Awareness, Makaton, etc
