Job description:

4myschools are working with a Colchester based Primary school who are looking for a 1:1 LSA to support a child in EYFS with an EHCP for ASD.

This role is to support a child who is on a reduce timetable and is currently based outside of the classroom. These adjustments have been made to meet the child’s needs, they are not presenting any behaviours that challenge. The child is non-verbal and a sensory-seeker. They enjoy sound and their favourite thing to do it find an object, any object, that makes a sound when the drop it on a hard surface. As a result, the school have provided suitable resources and set up a dedicated area for this child. The child will need reminders for them to use the bathroom, and in some instances there may be personal care duties.

Your day will start by welcoming the child at reception and collecting from mum or dad, where you will be able to ask any questions about how the child’s morning has been so far. Then it will be on to an activity, which will likely be child led. You may be indoors or outside so ensure that you have weather appropriate clothing. At the end of their day, you will meet mum or dad for collection, and handover to the class teacher or SENDCO.

Requirements:

To be successfully appointed for this role you will need:

  • To be available Tuesday to Friday, term-time only, 8:30am-11:30am
  • Previous experience of supporting a child with SEND
  • Skills in teamwork, liaising with colleagues
  • Confidence to use initiative and self-motivate at times
  • Skills in adapting your approach to meet individual needs
  • Be flexible and reliable
  • Have an Enhanced, Child workforce, Disclosure, that is on the update service; or be willing to pay for one. (Please note: This is an essential document to work in schools)

Desirable but not essential requirements:

  • Knowledge of SLCN strategies
  • Previous experience of working as an LSA with a child with similar needs
