The role:
I am recruiting for an English Teacher on behalf of a well-established SEN school in Ipswich, which is part of a large, reputable trust. This offers staff access to an extensive support network and numerous CPD opportunities.
The school boasts a modern, welcoming atmosphere, with excellent parking facilities and transport links.
They are seeking a specialist English Teacher to join their team, ideally someone with experience in teaching and supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Understanding the importance of building strong connections and providing continuity for these students is crucial.
This is a permanent position starting in January 2025, but they are open to appointing someone sooner if available.
English Teacher Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver Engaging Lessons: Plan and deliver high-quality, differentiated English lessons. Ensure they are engaging, accessible, and meet the individual needs of students
- Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development of schemes of work, ensuring that lessons are aligned with the national curriculum while addressing the social and emotional needs of the pupils.
- Classroom Management: Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment. Use a range of behaviour management strategies tailored to the needs of SEMH pupils.
- Monitoring Pupil Progress: Regularly assess, track, and report on pupil progress, using formative and summative assessments, ensuring all pupils are making progress towards their academic and personal goals.
- Individualised Support: Provide targeted support to pupils with specific learning and emotional needs. Adapt your teaching methods and resources as necessary to help them overcome barriers to learning.
- Collaboration with Support Staff: Work closely with teaching assistants, pastoral staff, and other specialists to ensure a holistic approach to each pupil’s development.
- Parental and Carer Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents and carers. Provide updates on pupil progress and involve them in strategies to support their child’s learning and well-being.
- Safeguarding and Well-being: Ensure the safety and well-being of pupils by adhering to safeguarding policies, identifying concerns, and implementing interventions to support their emotional and mental health.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated with best practices in SEMH education and implement new strategies to improve pupil outcomes.
Requirements:
- QTS
- Previous experience working as an English Teacher
- Knowledge, Understanding and experience teaching and supporting young people disengaged with education, who struggled within a mainstream education setting, and/or with and EHCP for SEMH
- Competencies in organisation, classroom management, building rapport and adaptability
- Strong communication skills that you can tailor to meet the needs of each student
