Daily Rate: £75-£90 per day

SEN LSA Ipswich. We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work on a 1:1 basis with a child who has profound Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is non-verbal, and requires sensory stimulation. The successful candidate will play a vital role in providing tailored support to help the child engage in their learning and daily activities.

You will be working in a nurturing and inclusive environment dedicated to providing the highest standard of education and support for all pupils, including those with special educational needs.

Responsibilities for SEN LSA Ipswich:

  • Provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal child with profound ASD, ensuring their individual needs are met throughout the school day.
  • Implement sensory stimulation activities that are tailored to the child’s needs, helping them to engage with their environment and learning.
  • Assist with the use of alternative communication methods, such as PECS, Makaton, or other communication aids.
  • Help maintain a structured and calm learning environment to support the child’s emotional and sensory regulation.
  • Work closely with the SENCO, class teacher, and external specialists to follow and implement the child’s education, health, and care plan (EHCP).
  • Support the child with personal care needs, if required.
  • Monitor the child’s progress, maintaining detailed records, and providing feedback to the SENCO and parents.
  • Build a positive and trusting relationship with the child to support their social and emotional development.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience working with children with profound ASD or complex needs, particularly those who are non-verbal.
  • Knowledge of sensory needs and experience in implementing sensory-based learning or therapeutic activities.
  • Familiarity with communication tools such as PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication systems.
  • Patience, empathy, and a passion for supporting children with special educational needs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working closely with teachers, specialists, and parents.
  • Ability to provide personal care, if required.
  • A relevant qualification in SEN support or childcare (desirable but not essential) e.g. CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools, Autism Awareness, Makaton, etc
